Patty Abramson, a venture capitalist who co-founded the W0men's Growth Capital Fund in 1997 to invest in businesses owned by women, died Aug. 24 in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts. She was 74. Jenny Abramson, her daughter and a managing partner at the venture firm Rethink Impact, told The Washington Post her mother died from cancer-related complications.
Uncork Capital, a backer of unicorns Poshmark and Postmates, has raised $100 million for its sixth main early-stage fund and $100 million for its second opportunity fund to back existing portfolio companies. Regulatory filings for the main fund and the opportunity fund, called Uncork Plus II, indicate a small amount of capital has yet to be raised, but a source said the funding is wrapped for each at $100 million.
Two Sigma Ventures has tapped Villi Iltchev as a partner. Iltchev was most recently a partner with August Capital, which he joined in 2016.
Oak HC/FT, which last week announced it raised $800 million for its oversubscribed third fund, announced several promotions. Nancy Brown, who joined the firm in 2014 and focuses on growth equity and early stage venture deals in healthcare, was named general partner.
San Francisco-based Armory, which commercializes Spinnaker, an open source platform for delivering software, announced it has raised a $28 million Series B round led by Insight Partners. The round also included follow-on investments from all existing investors, including Crosslink Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, Mango Capital, Y Combinator and Javelin Venture Partners.
CRV announced it has tapped two new additions to its enterprise team. Joining the firm are Anna Khan as general partner and Kristin Baker Spohn as venture partner.
San Francisco-based Altitude Networks, provider of a cloud collaboration security platform, announced it has raised $9 million in Series A funding led by Felicis Ventures. The Slack Fund is also participating in the round, along with previous investor Accomplice and individual investor Alex Stamos, former CSO at Facebook. As part of the funding, Aydin Senkut, founder and managing director of Felicis, will join the board.
San Francisco-based MindTickle, which provides a sales readiness platform, announced it has raised $40 million in Series C funding led by new investor Norwest Venture Partners. Also participating in the latest round is NewView Capital and returning investors Accel, Canaan Partners and Qualcomm Ventures. As part of the funding, Scott Beechuk, a partner at Norwest, will join the company's board.
Santa Clara, California-based MagicCube, provider of a Internet of Things security platform for consumers, announced it has raised $8.5 million in Series A funding led by Bold Capital Partners. Epic Ventures, Social Starts and Silicon Valley Bank also participated in the round. The company's original investors include Visa.
